Leanne is a freelance film director raised in Canada, now based in the U.K. She has created content for organisations such as the British Red Cross, Glastonbury Festival and the V&A Museum, including a recent immersive art installation as part of the critically acclaimed ‘Records and Rebels’ Exhibition. She also records theatre for the V&A Museum’s Digital Archive. She is currently making the documentary ‘Something Glamorous, Something Awkward’, about an artist in hospital making spaceships to cross social borders (funded by the BFI, Doc Society). She has also been awarded the Voices With Impact Grant, 2024 (USA/Canada) to make a film about serious mental illness.

She has studied at the NFTS and the London Film School, completing courses in Directing, Editing, Screenwriting and Cinematography. She was recently selected for the renowned ‘Filmonomics Training Programme' run by Oscar-winning Producer Mia Bays.

Leanne gained a BA in Politics at SOAS, University of London, and an MSc in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She then worked as a Refugee Caseworker and made educational films about asylum seekers for the Red Cross and other NGOs before moving into independent film.

Leanne strives to make strong, character-driven, narrative fiction, as well as documentaries, with distinctive themes and artistic merit. She has made several short films which have screened internationally and won awards.
